Three reasons why you don’t need a laptop

The coronavirus pandemic, which has led to a massive shift to telecommuting and distance learning, has breathed life into the computer and tablet markets. Sales of laptops and tablets have skyrocketed, but there are four reasons why you no longer need a laptop.

Over the past few years, laptops have become the preferred PC form factor for almost all users. The numbers speak for themselves — in 2019, 166 million laptops were sold worldwide and only 88 million desktops or desktops. And the gap between these two types of computers will only widen. Why do users love laptops so much? Their biggest advantage over desktop PCs is their weight, size, and portability. A modern laptop can weigh about a kilogram and can be taken with you wherever you go. But in reality, laptops are not the best choice for most users. And now we’ll tell you why.

If you value primarily compact size and portability, then instead of a laptop, you should choose a tablet computer. Tablets are lighter, more compact, and much easier to use on the go. At the same time, they are able to cope with most of the tasks that users put in front of laptops while traveling. In addition, the tablet can last longer on a single charge than a laptop, and boasts a touch screen, GPS module, built-in cameras and various sensors, which are not found on most laptops.

If you want to be productive while traveling and traveling, then take a tablet with a plug-in keyboard with you. And if you need a full-fledged workhorse in the office and at home, then it is better to stay with a desktop computer. Desktops have several advantages over laptops. First, buying a desktop PC is more cost effective, while laptop parts are more expensive due to their miniature size. This means that by choosing a desktop, you can get more power output compared to a laptop for the same money. Secondly, working at a computer is more convenient and healthier, since laptops place additional stress on the wrists, neck, back and eyes. Thirdly, in desktop PCs, as a rule, the monitor size is noticeably larger than the laptop screen, which means that more information can fit on the desktop. Also, desktop PCs have the advantage of a cooling system. And it is much easier to upgrade a PC, for example, by replacing the video card, while in the case of a laptop, most likely, you will have to buy a new one.

If you use your laptop primarily for watching movies, showing shows and listening to music, then a digital set-top box connected to a TV might be the best alternative. Yes, if your TV does not have a Smart TV function, you can connect a laptop to watch videos on YouTube, Netflix and other platforms. But then you have to tinker with HDMI cables and try to comfortably place the laptop next to the TV. This is why a set-top box like Apple TV or Google Chromecast is a great replacement for a laptop in such cases.
