Released this fall, the reference smartphone Pixel 6 will receive a «lite» version with the prefix «a» in the title. Yes, this is the Pixel 6a, the successor to the Pixel 5a released this year. The novelty has already appeared on press renders, and its key technical characteristics have become public knowledge.
Externally, the Pixel 6a will be similar to its older brothers in the face of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with the same camera unit on the back and a large display with an O-shaped notch for the camera in front. The screen of the new smartphone, according to insiders, will be a 6.2-inch OLED panel.
The Pixel 6a will be more compact than the original Pixel 6. The dimensions of its body will be 152.2×71.8×8.7 mm versus 158.6×74.8×8.9 mm for the Pixel 6. The novelty will be based on either the proprietary Google Tensor chipset or a mid-range processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G. The company will have a chip of 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. Whether there is support for microSD memory cards is not specified, but, most likely, it is absent. The rear panel will have a main camera with a main 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GN1 sensor and an additional module, the characteristics of which are still unknown.
By the way, judging by the renders, the Pixel 6a lacks the classic 3.5mm audio jack. If so, then the Pixel 6a will be the first A-series smartphone from Google to lack a dedicated headphone jack.
The Pixel 6a will ship with the Android 12 mobile operating system on board. Like other Pixel smartphones, the new model will be able to count on at least 3 years of software support.
