Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL suffer from deadly bug: smartphones massively turn into bricks

More and more Pixel 3 owners are faced with a problem that literally turns their smartphone into a useless brick. A growing number of complaints on the forums of Google, Reddit and others indicate that due to a certain bug, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones fail almost without warning, becoming unresponsive. They go into the so-called «emergency boot mode» (Qualcomm EDL), in which you can neither recover nor install a new firmware on your smartphone using the usual methods.

It is not yet clear what exactly the above problem is related to, how widespread it is, and whether there is any solution other than replacing the smartphone with a new one. Our colleagues at Engadget have reached out to Google for comment, but the internet giant has yet to respond to their request. Some experts believe that the problem is of a hardware nature, as happened at the time with the LG G4 and LG V10, when due to the so-called «boot cycle» smartphones went into a state of endless reboot, which made them useless.

In any case, the message about such a serious problem is not good news for all owners of third-generation Pixel smartphones, because every smartphone, without exception, is now at risk. Even more darkening the situation is the fact that most of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones have already expired, so it is possible that the owners will have to pay for the repair or purchase of a new device from their own pockets, although the problem arose through no fault of theirs. But there is a small but chance that Google will extend the warranty period for the Pixel 3, as it did with the Pixel 4.
