Wednesday, September 22, turned out to be rich in new items. While Realme and HMD Global unveiled their new Realme GT Neo2 and Nokia G50 5G smartphones, which we talked about earlier, software giant Microsoft announced its new foldable device. It is the successor to the Surface Duo foldable smartphone released last year. The novelty, as you would expect, was named Surface Duo 2.
With the second generation Surface Duo, Microsoft has addressed numerous flaws in its first foldable device and made it more competitive, especially given the reduced price tag. At the same time, the overall design of Microsoft’s foldable smartphone has remained unchanged. Surface Duo 2, like its predecessor, is equipped with two screens that, when unfolded, form a single work surface. These are two 5.8-inch AMOLED panels with a resolution of 1892 by 1344 pixels, which together turn into an 8.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2688 by 1892 pixels. The displays have a peak brightness of 800 nits and are covered with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus. One of the innovations of displays is the emergence of support for high refresh rates. This figure goes up to 90Hz for smoother animations, especially in games.
The second-generation Surface Duo is based on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, which has 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The volume of built-in storage, depending on the selected configuration, varies from 128 to 512 GB. The new device is running the mobile operating system Android 11.
The rear of Microsoft’s new foldable smartphone features a triple rear camera. It consists of a 12-megapixel main module combined with a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera.
The second generation Surface Duo is powered by a 4449 mAh battery. It supports 23W fast wired charging via USB Type-C port. True, the charger will have to be purchased separately. Among the other features of the novelty, it is worth highlighting the support of the new Surface Slim Pen 2 stylus, which is attached with magnets to the outside of the device for storage and wireless charging.
Surface Duo 2 is already available for pre-order in two colors. Prices start at $ 1,500.
