MediaTek launches Dimensity 9000 5G: flagship 4nm chip

The Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek, which recently overtook the American company Qualcomm in deliveries, is actively expanding its Dimensity line of processors. The day before, she announced her new mobile chip called Dimensity 9000 5G. It is the flagship platform that will form the basis of the 2022 model year smartphones.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is the world’s first chip based on TSMC’s 4nm process technology. It is also the first mobile chip to include a Cortex-X2 core clocked at up to 3.05 GHz. The first new processor MediaTek received and support for the new wireless standard Bluetooth 5.3.

MediaTek’s new flagship chip includes eight cores, split into three clusters. The first cluster includes one high-performance Cortex-X2 core clocked at 3.05 GHz, the second cluster consists of three Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.85 GHz, and the third cluster consists of four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1 , 8 GHz. The ten-core graphics accelerator Mali-G710 MC10 is responsible for graphics processing.

The chipset supports LPDDR5x RAM at speeds up to 7500 Mbps and has 14 MB of cache, which, according to the manufacturer, improves performance by 7% compared to processors with 8 MB of dedicated cache. Introducing the Dimensity 9000, MediaTek emphasized that according to the results of testing in the Geekbench benchmark, the new processor surpassed the «flagship of the Android market» in terms of power. Most likely, we are talking about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip. In the synthetic test, the Dimensity 9000 scored about the same as the flagship of 2021, which probably means Apple’s A15 Bionic chipset installed inside the iPhone 13 series.

In addition to Bluetooth 5.3, the new chip also supports Wi-Fi 6E 2×2 and has a built-in 5G modem, which provides operation in fifth generation cellular networks in the frequency range below 6 GHz. The Dimensity 9000 is compatible with WQHD + 144Hz and Full HD + displays up to 180Hz, as well as cameras up to 320MP. In addition, the chipset allows you to shoot 4K video simultaneously from three cameras.
