Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, aka Snapdragon 898, will receive 150-watt charging

Just a few days ago, the well-known Chinese insider Digital Chat Station announced that the first smartphone with support for 150W super-fast charging was on its way. And today he also shared information about the next flagship Qualcomm chipset, which will be able to provide this smartphone with a similar charge.

Qualcomm is expected to unveil its new flagship processor on November 30 as part of its annual technology summit. It is rumored to be called Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, not Snapdragon 898, as we used to think. In addition to powerful cores, one of the features of the flagship platform will be support for a new fast charging standard with a capacity of up to 150 watts. True, the first batch of chipsets will not support 150-watt charging, which means that smartphones with such fast charging will appear on the market a little later.

As expected, the first flagships on the new Qualcomm chipset will be presented by Xiaomi and Motorola. It will debut in December 2021 but won’t offer 150W charging. Deliveries of the second batch of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips with support for 150W charging will start in late 2021, and the first devices with them inside will appear in the first quarter of 2022.

Recall that the current Qualcomm wireless charging standard is called Quick Charge 5 and allows you to charge the battery from 0 to 50% in just 5 minutes thanks to the so-called Dual Charge technology. The 150-watt technology is likely to be dubbed Quick Charge 6. It is said to take just 10 minutes to fully charge a smartphone’s battery.
