MediaTek will release Dimensity 2000: competitor to Snapdragon 898, but significantly cheaper

In the two years since the launch of the Dimensity series of mobile processors, Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek has released more than a dozen chips for mobile devices of different price categories. Chips Dimensity enjoy well-deserved popularity among smartphone manufacturers and MediaTek does not intend to stop there, preparing new solutions under the Dimensity brand for release. A month ago, as part of its quarterly financial report, MediaTek promised to release a new flagship 5G chipset by the end of 2021. This, according to insiders, will be MediaTek Dimensity 2000.

Sources confirm that MediaTek Dimensity 2000 will be officially unveiled at the end of this year. But the first devices based on it will appear on the market no earlier than the first half of next year. The cost of smartphones with the new MediaTek chip inside, according to insiders, will be about 3,000 yuan, or about $ 464 at the current exchange rate.

Judging by the price of smartphones, it might seem that the MediaTek Dimensity 2000 is a competitor to MediaTek’s sub-flagship Snapdragon 870 chipset. But insiders say that in terms of features and performance, MediaTek’s next flagship processor will match Qualcomm’s Snapadragon 898 SoC, which is expected to launch in early December. Compared to the current Snapdragon 888, the Dimensity 2000 has a faster GPU and improved power efficiency. In fact, the Dimensity 2000 will be a powerful chip that surpasses the Snapdragon 888 and competes with the Snapdragon 898, but at a fraction of the cost. Analysts agree that by launching Dimensity 2000, MediaTek could undermine Qualcomm’s dominance in the global mobile processor market.
