It’s no secret that the semiconductor industry is going through hard times right now. According to experts, the crisis in the industry, which was caused by the explosive growth in demand for chips and led to a massive shortage, will not end soon. In order to somehow solve the problem that arose in the market, large semiconductor manufacturers began to raise prices for their products.
Amid the global shortage of semiconductors, which has affected various industries — from automotive to computer, chip makers, including the Taiwanese company Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), began to raise chip prices. Moreover, analysts expect that the rise in prices this year will not be limited and the chips will continue to rise in price in 2022. TSMC recently announced the largest price increase for its products in a decade. For the majority of TSMC customers, prices increased by an average of 15-20%, except for Apple, for which TSMC raised the cost of its services by only 3%. But this, according to experts, is not the limit.
The rise in the price of semiconductor products will undoubtedly lead to higher prices for consumer electronics. First of all, smartphones and computers may rise in price. The rise in price will affect all manufacturers without exception, including such large brands as Apple, so it is possible that the next iPhone and iPad models will be noticeably more expensive than their predecessors.
